The Spiritual Council

The origin of this tool comes from Think & Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill.  The author describes his practice of imagining sitting at a table surrounded by individuals, some alive and some who have passed.  These individuals represent great and distinguished men and women who inspire and motivate the author; historic people who embody Heroic levels of character, creativity, leadership, innovation or entrepreneurship.  While “sitting” at the table with these notable individuals the author imagines that they all represent his advisory council – his Trusted Servants.  This Council then serves to advise him on any question he proposes to them.

In Financial UA we recommend using this technique of assembling a “Spiritual Council”.  You may consider building a list of 5 to 6 individuals of your choosing.  Heroic men and women who motivate and inspire you by how they lived their life or by how they solved the challenges that faced them.  After forming your list of candidates, you may find a photograph of each one.  Often these photos can be gathered off the internet.  We also suggest including a photo of your childhood self. Choose one area in your home…preferably a wall next to your Recovery Shrine or Recovery Laboratory.  Mount or hang the photos of your Spiritual Council members on the wall so that you may see them and consult with them easily while seated in your Recovery Shrine or Recovery Laboratory.

It is suggested that you form a question, write it down in your prosperity notebook and then say the Prosperity Prayer.  You may then ask your question to each member of your Spiritual Council.  Meditate briefly and imagine how your Council members would, one at a time, respond to your question.  Write down the answers.  To make this technique even more effective, consider asking your Qualified FUA Sponsor or another trusted member of FUA to hold space for you (perhaps on the telephone, over the internet, or in person) while you do this exercise.

After receiving “answers” from your Spiritual Council, consider thanking them for their service and dismissing them from your presence.  You may then process and discuss with your Sponsor, or in any FUA meeting or workshop, any answers or guidance you received.
